David W. Edwards Scholarship
All current history majors, transfer students or incoming freshman history majors are eligible. Preference will be given to those students displaying financial need. The initial award of $3,000 is renewable for up to four years (total award $12,000) contingent on good academic standing and committee approval. Two recipients will be chosen. Applications must be submitted yearly.
George William Ray Memorial Award
History majors of Junior or Senior standing or graduate students interested in the study of western civilization are eligible. Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The award is contingent on good academic standing and the approval of the George William Ray Memorial Award Committee. Applications must be submitted yearly. One award of approximately $1000 is offered.
The G. V. G. “Tori” Saunders Award
The $100 award to a history major is given to the student with the highest overall GPA who is a veteran, spouse of a veteran, or the child of a veteran who also demonstrates “a thirst for knowledge” and is “known for exhibiting kindness to others.”
The Helen and Hugo Goecke and Adlyn and Harry Kennedy Memorial Travel Fund
The fund is open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty interested in support for travel expenses related to research. Preference is for travel abroad. One award of approximately $1000 is offered.
The Jesse Taylor Jr. Endowed Scholarship in History
The scholarship is open to history majors and graduate students, with preference given to graduate students. One or two awards of approximately $1500 each will be made each year.
The J. Margaret Roberts Endowed Award Fund
This fund, in the name of J. Margaret Roberts a 1944 graduate of the department, is for the purpose of providing financial assistance and encouragement to students in the department of history. The award will be based upon academic merit and total approximately $750.
The Mary D. Hudgins Endowed Scholarship Fund
This fund is intended to support graduate and undergraduate students who have demonstrated an interest in the field of Arkansas history, and are pursuing research for an honors thesis, master’s thesis, or doctoral dissertation on an Arkansas history topic. One or two awards of approximately $1500 to $2000 will be awarded each year.
The Ralph V. Turner Award Fund
The fund support travel for faculty, undergraduates and graduate students of the department of history for research in England and/or Scotland. One award of approximately $1000 will be awarded yearly.
The Sidney A. Moncrief Scholarship
The Moncrief Scholarship is awarded to an entering History Major or Minor interested in the study of Black History who displays outstanding academic ability. The initial award of $400 is renewable for up to four years contingent on good academic standing and the approval of the Moncrief Scholarship Committee. Applications must be submitted yearly.
The Walter Lee Brown Scottish Rite Scholarship Award for History
This scholarship is available to undergraduate or graduate students researching and writing on American history to complete an honors thesis, master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation. Each year one award of approximately $500 will be awarded.
