History Major
Requirements for a Major in History:
- Four Courses (12 hours) selected from the following, fulfilling the Intercultural Requirement:
- Any World Languages Course(s)*, HIST 1003, AAST 1003, AAST 2023, ANTH 1023, CLST 1013, ECON 2013, ECON 2023, ECON 3063, ENGL 2313, ENGL 2353, GEOS 1123, GEOS 2003, GNST 2003, HIST 1203, HIST 1213, HIST 2093, INST 2013 JWST 2003, LALS 2013, MATH 2053, MATH 2183, MEST 2013, MRST 2013, PHIL 1003, PHIL 2003, PHIL 2103, PHIL 2203, PLSC 2003, PLSC 2813, SOCI 2013, SOST 2003, STAT 2303
*Notes: Honors candidates must complete a world language at the Intermediate II (2013) level or higher (see honors requirements). Also, students intending to pursue a graduate degree are strongly encouraged to take a world language sequence through the Intermediate II (2013) level.
- Fulbright writing requirement: Each history major will submit, prior to graduation, a substantial research or analytical paper, with a grade of “A” or “B” from an upper-division history course (30000, 40000, 50000 level) to their departmental adviser. The required senior capstone seminar, HIST 4893, is designed to give history majors the opportunity and guidance to produce a paper to meet the Fulbright College requirement, but students may also submit a paper from another course. Satisfactory completion of an honors thesis will also fulfill this requirement.

- History Electives (8 courses, 24 hours). At least four courses (12 hours) must be numbered 40000 or higher. Students must select at least one course from each of Group 1 (Europe, including Britain and Russia), Group 2 (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Near East, Russia), and Group 3 (United States). - History majors are strongly encouraged, but not required, to take a minor or combined major in one of the following:
