Ozark Studies Minor

The purpose of the Ozarks Studies Minor is to provide students with interdisciplinary training in the history, major themes, issues, and contemporary trends in the Ozarks, broadly defined. Students who complete a minor in Ozarks Studies will be well suited to continue in community engagement, graduate and postgraduate work, education, politics, and more. The minor requires 18 hours spread across History, Anthropology, African and African American Studies, English, Political Science, and more. The program is anchored by HIST 33903: The Ozarks: People, Place, Time, which is taught every fall semester.

The minor is led by Dr. Jared Phillips of the History Department (where it’s housed), and is partnered with the University Libraries and Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts.
